In-Person & Virtual Options

Dance classes for Fall 2020 are being offered both in-person and virtually via Zoom. Families are asked to commit to one option, and those who choose the virtual option are expected to participate in real time following the listed schedule. Once enrolled, requests to change between in-person and virtual participation are subject to space availability.

We are using alternative spaces within our building to accommodate larger groups. Alternative spaces will be equipped with appropriate flooring, portable dance barres, and mirrors as needed.

Students in our 3–5 year old group must participate with a parent or guardian to help reinforce current social distancing guidelines. The format of these classes will continue to follow a traditional dance class structure, and caregivers will be phased out as social distancing recommendations relax.

Enrollment for dance classes is strictly limited to ensure that both in-person and virtual students receive the best possible experience given the current circumstances.

Due to current enrollment caps, we will be utilizing Waiting Lists for dance classes. If your class is sold out, the Box Office can assist you in adding your name to a Waiting List. The Education Coordinator will then work with Waiting List families to investigate alternate options. Should spots become available, Waiting List families will be contacted in the order they were added to the Waiting List.

Due to the fluidity of current recommendations for group activities, we are only selling our Fall Session at this time. In addition, the Fall 2020 Session will be split into two mini-sessions. We hope these changes will provide families with additional flexibility in choosing what is best for them during this unprecedented time.

Session 1: Monday, September 14 – Saturday, October 24 (6 classes)
Payment for Session 1 due in full on Monday, September 21, 2020

Session 2: Monday, October 26 – Saturday, December 12 (6 classes)
Payment for Session 2 due in full on Monday, November 9, 2020

Families who enroll in the Fall 2020 Session will be given first pick for Winter/Spring classes and will receive a Returning Student Discount for the classes that they took during fall.

Payment options have been altered due to our shortened schedule for Fall 2020. Families who wish to use a Payment Plan will be asked to split their tuition into two payments per session.

Contemporary and Ballet Dancers

We recommend setting up your dance space on a hardwood or kitchen floor. Otherwise, many hardware and building supply stores sell pre-cut pieces of laminated wood or linoleum flooring scraps that will help students slide the foot properly for warm-up exercises. The standard size of 4–6 ft in length and/or width will work just fine.

Tap and Irish Hard Shoe Dancers

Hard dance shoes can easily ruin floors, and concrete can easily ruin dance shoes (as well as the body!). We recommend using a small panel of wood laid on top of a rug or yoga mat. Many hardware and building material stores have pre-cut panels that are 4–6 ft in length and/or width, or they have the ability to cut one to size for you.

Since January 2007, the Schauer School of Arts (SSA) has offered dance instruction that focuses on building students’ abilities through the development of a strong technical foundation.  We offer classes in Ballet, Contemporary, Irish and Tap  for ages 3+.

  • To provide experienced and knowledgeable instructors who love to teach
  • To help students develop a strong technical foundation and grow as artists
  • To ensure a nurturing and supportive environment for students

SSA dance students are offered opportunities to perform throughout the year, including:

Leaps & Bounds Dance Showcase

Held annually on the weekend following Mother's Day. Takes place in the Ruth A. Knoll Theater at the Schauer Arts Center. Open to all students enrolled in Winter/Spring Session. Subject to Participation Fee and additional rehearsal time outside of class.

Schauer Mainstage & Family Shows

SSA dance students have had the pleasure of performing with Paddy Homan & the Noble Call, Two on Tap, Dance Alive! National Ballet, Wausau Dance Theatre, and New York Theatre Ballet.

Schauer Irish Dance Troupe
