The Schauer School of the Arts is in search of dance instructors for the 2019-2020 school year. We
are looking to add to our weekly team as well as our substitute pool. All candidates should have:

  • The ability and desire to maintain a consistent schedule once it’s set in place

  • The ability to plan classes that foster progressive learning and skill development

  • A commitment to movement techniques and practices that assure the safety of our dancers

  • Availability to help stage our annual May showcase and participate in occasional community events

Candidates should have additional qualifications related to the specific openings listed below.

CONTEMPORARY INSTRUCTOR | Intermediate & Advanced Levels

Must have an aptitude for working with middle and high school students.
Availability on Wednesday and/or Thursday evenings is preferred but negotiable.


Proficiency in teaching a wide range of ages/levels is preferred, but focus on one level is acceptable.

All Schauer School of the Arts instructors should hold the following Qualifications & Experience :

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent

  • Minimum of two years teaching experience in their chosen area

  • Working knowledge of the terminology, basic pedagogy, and history related to their chosen area

  • Strong written and verbal skills that ensure healthy communications between students, staff, and families

The Schauer School of the Arts offers classes in dance, music, theater, and visual art for all ages and abilities. Positions available for part-time experienced bartenders with flexible hours that encompass nights, weekends, and holidays. Candidates must be at least 21 years old and have a minimum of 1 year of bartending experience. Qualifying candidates will be outgoing, courteous, positive, professional, and familiar with bartending in an upscale environment. Must have a City of Hartford bartender license.

MARKETING COORDINATOR (Part-Time 28 hrs per wk)

This position coordinates all marketing and promotional activities of the Schauer Arts Center, including marketing budget, scheduling, media relations, print promotions, social media and website management.  This includes:

  • Planning for and compiling all marketing materials for Schauer Theater programming, School of the Arts activities, rental clients, and working closely with a graphic designer

  • Management of website and social media pages

  • Cultivation of relationships with media outlets

  • Use of data and reports to measure effectiveness of marketing efforts

  • Reinforcement of styling and branding to ensure consistency and uniform image

  • Ability to work independently as well as participation as part of a team to achieve excellent customer satisfaction and organization growth

Proficiency in Microsoft Suite and Social Media required.  Experience with Adobe Creative Suite preferred.  Excellent communication and negotiation skills a plus.  Knowledge of and enthusiasm for the arts desired.  If the applicant has Marketing experience and Graphic Design skills, could be combined for a full-time position.

Assists and backs up the Event Services Coordinator for non-theater usage of the Schauer Center facilities. The Event Services Dept. is responsible for the oversight and management of all social and business-related facility usage and for concessions (including alcoholic beverage service) operations for both theater and non-theater events. This position works closely with the Event Services Coordinator and rental clients in their planning and execution of events, while providing excellent customer service and working as an ambassador of the Schauer Center.

Responsibilities include assisting the Event Services Coordinator in scheduling and giving tours to assess needs of clients, establishing rental contracts, event planning with clients, coordinating technical needs and serving as on-site staff representative during events. It also includes acting as lead bartender (as assigned), assisting in concession inventory management and preparing reports. A professional, cooperative relationship with Schauer Center staff and rental clients is essential.

Must be able to work a flexible schedule with a combination of weekday office hours and event-related evening and weekend hours. The schedule will vary week to week. Must be able to lift 50 pounds and stand for extended periods of time. Must obtain a valid City of Hartford bartender license and renew annually.
