I have heard it said that what was once old becomes new again. For the first time in the choir’s history, the Hartford Community Chorus has a summer program. The summer’s group is known as, “Vintage.” When we think of “vintage,” we often think of fine wine, timeless apparel, and classic automobiles. Vintage, then, is something old and of value, something that has withstood the passing of time, something that can be labeled, “classic.” The purpose of the chorus, “Vintage,” is to perform music that continues to be ageless.
On August 13th, at 7:30 pm, Vintage will perform at the outdoor Courtyard of the Schauer Arts Center in Hartford. The concert’s music will consist of such classics as “Chattanooga Choo Choo,” Forty-Second Street,” “Satin Doll,” “And All That Jazz,” “Route 66,” “It Don’t Mean a Thing” (If it Ain’t Got that Swing), Louis Prima’s “Sing, Sing, Sing,” and others. As in the past, the audience will be asked to join the chorus for a couple of songs, “Over the Rainbow,” and “Singing in the Rain.” We may even have some unexpected soloists from the audience. So, let’s clear those throats and brush up on our finest singing.
In the event of rain, the concert will be held in the large shelter at Woodlawn Park in Hartford. Then, were there any weather “watches,” or “warnings,” for Washington County, the concert will have to be canceled. There is no admission fee nor required tickets. However, you may wish to bring a lawn chair and maybe something to donate to the group.
