Schauer School of Dance
Policies
Waiting Area
Due to multiple events and expensive artwork on display, it is the Schauer Center’s preference that you drop your child off and not wait in the building. The Schauer Center is a working environment with events and classes happening throughout the day and evening. There may not always be a place for you to wait. If a parent chooses to stay on premises for the duration of a class, the Schauer Center requests that parents wait on the lower lobby level.
If you have other children with you while you wait, we ask that you please wait on the lower lobby level and bring something to keep your children occupied for the duration of the class. If your child is running throughout the building, you will be asked to leave. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
Student Placement
Instructors reserve the right to place students in the appropriate class(es). Placement or audition classes may be required. An instructor may feel it necessary to move a student to a different level within the first few weeks of class. This is for the benefit of the student and will be discussed with the parent first.
Class Observation
Please respect that all classes are closed to parents, family and friends. Parents will be invited to observe one class during each semester. Information regarding class observation will be given our with class confirmation at the start of each term. Please respect that this is an open class, not a performance. We do ask that no video recording or photography be taken during observation class.
Progress Reports
A written progress report will be given at the end of each semester. Our curriculum is set-up to run for the entire year, September throughMay. The report handout to students in May will tell students which class to enroll in for summer and fall sessions.
Dancer Commitment, Participation & Attendance
Students are expected to regularly attend all classes and rehearsals. Excessive absences hinder the individual student and the rest of the class. Students will participate in class unless the Schauer Center is notified by the parent with either a written note or a phone call excusing the student from activity. Excused students may sit and observe a class - this is far better than missing class when a student does not feel well, as long as the student is not contagious. Contagious Students - Please Stay Home!
Making Up Missed Classes
We encourage students to make up missed classes in another appropriate class during the current semester. To ensure the quality of teaching, the Schauer Center reserves the right to discontinue students who fail to exhibit interest, attendance, discipline or progress. Excessive absences will be dealt with at the discretion of each instructor.
At performance time, certain classes will be required attendance to participate in the performance. Students must attend 50% or more of classes to be eligible to perform. Mandatory classes will be indicated on recital documents that will be handed out in March.
